The O.G. kung fu film...
Go back to the imperial Qing dynasty in Jet Li's new $40 million movie, Ci-Ma. It’s a war epic re-make of famed martial arts director Chang Cheh's 1973 movie The Blood Brothers, revolving around three men (blood brothers) and their rise up the ranks of the Qing dynasty army after joining the fight against rebels, and then the breakdown of their friendship when one kills another to steal his wife, and the third seeks revenge. Some say the original was the best martial arts movie ever. Period. So this one has a lot to live up to.
The cast is rumored to include (besides martial arts hottie Li) veteran Hong Kong actor Andy Lau and Taiwanese-Japanese heartthrob Takeshi Kaneshiro, but their keeping a tight lid on who the female lead will be. Taiwan's Shu Qi, China's Zhou Xun and Chinese actress-director Xu Jinglei have been mentioned as possibilities, but no official word yet. And personally, we have no idea who these chicks are anyway... but we're sure they're excellent.
There’s also no news on the film dates or release so sit tight, play with your num chucks and we’ll let you know when it’s due out!
