At various interviews we’ve been hearing a few little nuggets about upcoming projects from Quentin Tarantino… so let’s shed some light on the rumors and see what we’ve got to look forward to!
The first is a WWII film Inglorious Bastards (which is supposedly heavily influenced by The Dirty Dozen and Where Eagles Dare) and tells the story of U.S. soldiers who are about to be executed and are offered a chance at reprieve. Tarantino has described it as a "guys-on-a-mission" movie and so far Tim Roth and Michael Madsen are set to star. Rumors are that the original script would call for a 6 hour movie, meaning they’d have to slice it up like the Kill Bill series but despite other rumors, this film is not a remake of the 1977 Bo Svenson movie with the same name.
Next we’ve heard a lot of talk about a Grindhouse sequel, from both Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino… which considering how involved Tarantino was with this project, wouldn’t surprise us one bit. Not a lot of info, but we know he’s busy working on some scripts.
Lastly, (but perhaps born out of the Grindhouse sequel idea) is an old school kung fu film, which he would cut and dub all to make it even more authentic. The man loves his kung fu!
Excerpts from an interview at VH1:
“There's all these subgenres in exploitation movies and cinema in general that we like, and this gives us a license to explore them all … I do have an idea in my mind for an old-school kung-fu movie that would be shot in Mandarin … there would be a long version of it, with subtitles and all serious. Then I would cut another version way down, like they did in America, and dub it! Not to make it look silly, but you can't help but benefit from its humorous quality.”
Looks like he’s got a lot on his plate and we are dying for a bite!
