HIGHLANDER!!!! Credit: www.brew-wood.co.uk
The famed producer of the highly successful Highlander franchise has passed away from an aneurysm in Idaho. Apparently he was not immortal like Duncan MacLeod, as he was only 64.
A brief history of how this fantastic series was born - Panzer teamed up with follow producer Peter Davis in 1976, forming Davis-Panzer Productions. They went on to produce more than 20 films, including Sam Peckinpah's final film The Osterman Weekend, Death Collector (with Joe Pesci), Stunts and Freeway (not the awesome 1996 one with Keifer Sutherland, but the ok 1988 one with Richard Belzer). But Highlander (1986) was to be the moneyshot… a movie about an immortal Scottish warrior locked in a centuries-long death match. It spawned four sequels, three TV series and a videogame. And was pretty damn profitable, we imagine.
Panzer was a popular guy at the Cannes Film Festival (known for his dapper style and wicked sense of humor) and at Highlander conventions - where he made himself completely available to the fans. A very cool guy from the sounds of it, so if you feel like adding to his legacy… donations can be made to a scholarship fund in his name at the Lawrenceville School in Princeton, N. J.
