Be there or be square, my friend.
Quentin Tarantino and the New Beverly Cinema are hosting the Los Angeles Grindhouse Festival 2007, showcasing more than 50 exploitation films (from Tarantino's own personal library!). If you don’t know this cool genre of film, get your ass over to wikipedia and get your learnin’ on fool!
The festival starts March through April (check HERE for more info and the schedule), to coincide with the release of Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's film Grindhouse, which is actually two movies (Rodriguez's film is Planet Terror and Tarantino's is Death Proof) that are really a tribute to the genre. Grindhouse hits the theatres April 6 with lots of cool little surprises, like trailers for fake movies, including one by Hostel producer/director Eli Roth.
There are currently no plans to take the festival on the road, so you should enjoy it while it runs down there in La La Land. It makes a damn fine vacation this time of year AND since our boy Tarantino is running things… you can look forward to double and triple features of mostly uncensored and uncut zombie-pimp ho-smacking films, theme nights (including an All Blood Triple) and a number of rare 35mm prints like Shame of the Jungle. It’s grindhouse, blaxpoitation and exploitation film viewing at it’s best, sitting right beside and perhaps sharing a box of jujubees with the biggest fan of all… Quentin.
