Nice try, Microsoft...
So big, bad Microsoft has rolled out the new Windows Vista operating system, with a cool twist… an on-demand movie partnership with Telstra's Bigpond Movies. Jeff Putt (Microsoft’s Australia dir. of Windows client) announced that this fabulous access to the internet movie service would cleverly be built right into the new operating system’s Media Centre.
Supposedly the downloads will not be metered for existing Bigpond customers, but those subscribing to other internet providers will be paying to use the service. What a great money-making scheme for Bigpond!
Microsoft is, of course, wheeling and dealing with lots of big names to make Vista the ‘be all - end all’ of operating systems such as a new partnership with Kodak (Vista users can order prints of digital photographs stored on their computers directly from Kodak via the Windows interface) and also trying to get all fancy... like the new Games Explorer, the Aero interface and the Flip-3D window manager. All fantastic ideas, and all devised to beat out the original cool operating system of the Mac. Good luck with that!
