In a bold move by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., they’ve announced they are launching a movie download service for the PlayStation 3 owners… cool in its own right… but that the new content would NOT require users to buy DVDs or Blu-ray discs. Excellent! Content would go directly to the hard drive.

With no solid details (hey, they just announced the plans for the thing), we have no pricing or tech specs but we can say with the minimum hard drives of 20GB or 60GB in every machine now… they’re on their way to fulfill a ’10 year plan’ for making the product an entertainment machine (music, movies, HD , Blu-ray, TV, etc), versus a gaming console.

Just one more option in the world of downloadable movie services, where corporations are weaning you slowly off of the illegal kind! We don’t mind paying… but the more competition that rolls out, the better the prices will be for all of us.
