More download options for masses.
So right after their announcement of a ‘partnership’, the two big names have launched the “Amazon Unbox on TiVo” service. The download service has been in beta since September 2006 on a limited basis to a small number of users but now they’re ready for the big time, 1.5 million broadband-ready TiVo subscribers.
The new service allows TiVo’s subscribers to download movies and TV shows from the thousands currently available on Amazon Unbox, directly to their DVR (Digital Video Recorder) boxes. Makes ya wanna go out and get TiVo, doesn’t it?! Downloaded movies or shows magically appear in the subscriber’s TiVo “Now Playing” list with all of their other recorded shows, so no external device required.
But wait... there’s more: Sony Pictures and MGM are being added on top of the existing studios (CBS, Fox Entertainment Group, Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Entertainment) so the selection should be pretty smokin’.
Costs are $1.99 for TV shows and most movies are between $9.99 and $14.99 (to own) or $1.99 and up (to rent). Both companies currently have special offer for $15 in free movie and TV show downloads to anyone who signs up for the Amazon Unbox on TiVo service before the end of April 2007… so hurry to snag that deal.
