Based on one hell of a true story!
Last Thursday, there was a wide-range scooping of main prizes for the offbeat movie The World's Fastest Indian at the New Zealand Screen Awards. Producers Roger Donaldson and Gary Hannam were on hand to pick up the movie kudos for this fine film about world speed-record-breaking motorcyclist Burt Munro. He’s a man who spent years re-building a 1920’s Indian motorcycle to set the land-speed record in 1967 on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Of course the Kiwis loved it, as the main character Munro (played by Hopkins) was a local hero and this film is flavored with much of this cool nation’s humor and mentality. Hopkins even did a great job with the accent! This film really hit home and broke local box office records last year in New Zealand. It’s a great loner guy in a foreign-land kind of flick.
If you want to see the winning list, or maybe be there in person next year... here's more info: http://www.sdgnz.co.nz/award.asp.
