80's darling turned broadway baby...
Well it’s been awful quiet on the Molly Ringwald front for the past decade or so… as you couldn’t turn around in the 80’s without having her pop out of a John Hugh’s film atcha! We watched this redheaded misfit grow boobies (and they’re so PERKY! – to quote Sixteen Candles), date richies (Pretty in Pink), eat sushi that sat out for 5 hours (Breakfast Club) and even get knocked up in high school (For Keeps). Where can you go from there?! Her gawky teenage angst appeal had to dry up sometime, right?
The 90’s saw her go from starring roles to B actor… which had to hurt. After we saw her get married (Betsy’s Wedding), the characters she snagged kept getting more and more obscure. We blame it all on the Stephen King TV mini-series The Stand (where she played Frannie Goldsmith). That man’s a jinx!
This decade is finally starting to look up, as the little cutie is now in her late 30’s and was basically only snagging TV roles - with the exception of a few bad films like Not Another Teen Movie and some others you probably haven’t even heard of like Cowboy Up and The Translator. BUT things are getting interesting as Molly is starring in a Broadway musical called Sweet Charity that’s touring right now (official website HERE to get your tickets and see schedule) so this could be a new start. Many a Broadway musical has revived a dying career… so good luck!
