Actor Ralph Macchio is no doubt most well remembered for his role as Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 hit film The Karate Kid, but what happened to Ralph Macchio since then and where the heck is he now?
Despite The Karate Kid being a huge role for Ralph Macchio, he had actually worked in film previous to this, most notably a year before in The Outsiders. The film featured a huge cast of fresh young actors (including Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon and Rob Lowe... making it a 'who's going to be who' cast list). After The Karate Kid and the nutty sequels Ralph worked in a few films, none of which were overly acclaimed, taking a break between 1993 and 1999 to do some theatre work. In 1992 and 1996 Ralph and his wife Phyllis had a daughter and son respectively, which led to dropping out of Hollywood for a few years.
Ralph had a smattering of roles from 1998 onwards, though most were small TV parts along with some little known films. His biggest work during this period was probably Love Thy Brother in 2002 which Macchio had written and directed. In 2006 Ralph has been working with the company Utopia about building a large entertainment complex, and he was also in discussions about doing family based films with them.
So there you have it, now you know what happened to the karate kid. He’s still working away in the movie business, has two children (the boy is ironically named Daniel) and presumably still can never wax his car without thinking about Mr. Miyagi. Neither can we...
